Welcome to Reception!

Our teachers are Mrs Heffernan in Class 1 and Mrs Avington in Class 2 assisted by Mrs Watson and Mrs Scott.

The new Reception classes have settled happily into school and are making lots of new friends.

This year we shall learn a lot of new and exciting things.

Our first topic this half term was “Myself”. We made prints using our hands and learnt how to mix colours. We also had a visit from the School Nurse to talk about hand-washing.

We had lots of fun during “Book Week” reading stories written by Julia Donaldson and talking about words that rhyme. We also enjoyed making our own books and sharing them with each other. Our favourite activity was taking part in the Fancy Dress Book Character Parade.

As part of the Whole School Global Week, we learnt about Africa. We made our own musical instruments and animal masks.

In class we have learnt the following sounds:

Set 1:              s, a, t, p

Set 2:              i, n, m, d

Set 3:              g, o, c, k

We have also been introduced to the characters in the Oxford Reading Tree scheme and focused on the High Frequency words “and” and “the.”

Over the holiday you might like to practise the character names and focus words by using the Bingo game sheet on the website. If you want to play some games these websites may be useful:
