ST. ANNE'S CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL, ORMSKIRK

SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT PLAN SUMMARY 2010/11 v3

Our School Development Plan identifies the main areas our school is going to develop over the coming months. We now create a new School Development Plan every year, identifying 12 months of proposed work. We also set out some longer-term aims.

There are four general areas that we focus upon:

Curriculum Issues:

Usually monitored by the Life Of The School Sub Committee

Whole School Issues:

Usually monitored by the Life Of The School Sub Committee

Environmental Issues:

Usually monitored by the Facilities Committee

Staffing Issues:

Usually monitored by the People Committee.

In Life Of The School Governors’ Meetings, we report upon the general progress of our School Development Plan:

·        Some of our issues are essential and are expected to be achieved.

·        We also identify some issues, which will be developed if appropriate funding can be found. (Aspirational)

Curriculum Issues

Whole School Issues

Environmental Issues

Staff Issues

·         Further development of our Creative/Skills Based Curriculum and the linking of subjects. Planning will begin to reflect this approach to the Curriculum

·         In developing our assessment throughout the school we shall revisit our Assessment for Learning audit and review this in the light of the quality standards using the National Strategies self-evaluation tool.

·         Aspects of Safeguarding which are to be addressed are the instalment of barriers along the pathway towards Key Stage 1 to ensure greater opportunity for parents and children to follow designated walkways thereby keeping the driveway clear.

·      We will be appointing a new Assistant Headteacher who will take up their post in January 2011.

·       We wish to enable creative partnerships to take place thereby developing children’s skills in Writing, Art, Music, Drama and P.E.

·         We are also reviewing our assessment practice and policies in how information is shared. We are looking at how AFL approaches can better inform conversations with parents and pupils so that parents become even more actively engaged in helping their children to make progress towards their personal targets.

·         We also intend to install a barrier across the driveway so that the school office has control over which drivers may access the grounds.

·      Our Senior Leadership team as well as our Senior Management team are continuing to develop their roles and responsibilities within school and we would like this aspects of school life to be strengthened over the coming year. Our next round of Performance Management will reveal which aspects of Professional Development need to be addressed.

·         During this year we will be developing the independence of our pupils by introducing ‘Learning to Learn’ awards for those who show evidence of skills which foster learning such as being able to ‘have a go’ even if answers may be wrong. Further to this we shall be introducing homework ‘Learning Logs' which allow pupils greater choice in what they study and the way in which they present their work

·         We shall be introducing In-school Moderation of APP (Assessing Pupil Progress) so that the review of outcomes and the subsequent planning for the next steps in learning can take place, but with a whole school approach and a shared understanding of the process.

·      In response to our pupils we intend to rearrange our lunchtime schedule so that children may sit in friendship groups.

·      Our subject leaders will also be able to develop their professional skills and expertise (in Assessment, Creative approach to the Curriculum and Philosophy for Children) in the first instance, as these are the planned INSET courses which have been arranged to enhance our School Development Plan.

·         Our Philosophy for Children will continue with the Year 6 children and will also be further developed in Years 2, 3, 4 and 5

·         APP in science will be introduced.

·      Weekly recycling of paper and other items.

·         There will be training in ICT for all Teaching Assistants during this school year.

·         In R.E. we shall be auditing our resources to ensure that they remain high quality

·         APP for Speaking and Listening will also be introduced.

·         We have appointed two Learning Mentors, one for each Key Stage. Their role will evolve over the course of the year and they will be supported in this development by taking part in an accredited course as well as networking with other practitioners to gain further knowledge of how other schools have approached this initiative.

·         We wish to look closely at the suitability of the ‘Here I Am’ syllabus and look at others which are becoming available

·         Finance will be available for Teaching Assistants and HLTA’s to attend courses in APP

·         We intend to review our policy on Assemblies and would like to be able to invite parents into school for these more often

·         The tracking of pupil attainment will continue and we are investigating the Lancashire Trackers for Key Stage 1 and 2. Senior Leadership Team are to attend the relevant courses in the  Autumn Term 2010.

·         In our next round of Performance Management we shall continue to seek to develop our teaching skills and we are aiming to achieve ‘Outstanding’ judgements throughout the year. Staff teams will work together to share strategies to achieve this high standard in teaching and learning

·         We will be making a review of our annual reports to parents and in consultation with them, seek to improve our provision should it be necessary.

·         We are very keep to work collaboratively to introduce the ‘Lesson Study Cycle’ where two or more teachers will work together to develop practice in the classroom, focussing on the needs and learning of pupils. We hope to develop teaching techniques designed to improve specific aspects of learning for identified pupils

·         We shall continue our programme of Safeguarding training with further courses for Welfare and new members of staff.

·         The teaching of French will be introduced in the Autumn term 2010

·         We intend to review our procedures for latecomers.

·         Our curriculum will be enhance by the appointment of two learning mentors (see below.)

·         In response to parents we will introduce a Breakfast club from September 2010.

·         Our school web site is to be adapted to be more ‘user friendly’ for staff so that it reflects more easily the outstanding work which takes place in St. Anne's

·         Our school council will be extended this year to include some children from Years 2-6 as we hope that this will provide a more representative exchange of ideas.

·         We will need to maintain our ‘Healthy Schools’ status and so audit our provision for this award

·         The building of a school kitchen (Aspirational depending upon LCVAP funding)

·         The quality of resources for our Foundation Stage is to be upgraded. As with all other year groups we intend to monitor the quality of provision to ensure that all pupils are able to reach the very highest levels of attainment.

·         We will update our Discipline Policy

·         Laptops for all pupils (Aspirational)

We will work closely with our West Lancashire family of Catholic Schools to promote higher standards, give support to each other, and help achieve a greater transition through to St. Bede's Catholic High School.

·         We will continue to provide a broad approach to learning by planning themed ‘Super Learning’ days/weeks such as Art Day, Architecture Day and Global
